Activision announced today that Call of Duty: WWII, developed by Sledgehammer Games will release for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 3. Players who decide to Pre-Order the game will get access to a private beta later this year, which will be available first on PS4. Activision shared some details on the single-player campaign, the solo chapter of the game will follow U.S. Army private Ronald “Red” Daniels as he and the other members of the U.S. 1st Infantry Division fight throughout World War II’s European theater, primarily during 1944 and 1945.
As for the location of the game, it will take place in Europe. Some of the places players will play on are the famed beaches of Normandy (AkA D-Day), as well as scenes set during the liberation of Paris before the Division finds its way to Germany (Battle of the Bulge). Two of World War II’s Infamous/Iconic moments in all human history will be featured in the game. If you don’t know these Iconic moments you can watch the movie “Saving Private Ryan” to see the beaches of Normandy, Tom Hanks is one of the main characters in the movie. As for the cast Josh Duhamel (Transformers), Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom), and Jeffrey Pierce (Bosch) will be lending their voice to the game. With this game coming out you can say bye bye to Wall running, double jumping, future tech. Something veterans of the game will have to get used too, is that health doesn’t auto-regenerate if you duck behind cover long enough. Instead, you have to limp over to your medic and ask for help. Same goes for ammo – according to developers, if you run out, you’ll have to rely on your squad to toss you more. This game is taking you back to its roots.
Co-Op Campaign Mode
If anyone saw the Livestream then you know that the developers mention a separate Co-Op campaign mode featuring an original story. On Twitter, Sledgehammer also teased Call of Duty: WWII’s Nazi Zombies mode with a single image. In a press release, Activision described it as a co-operative mode that “delivers a unique storyline that’s an all-new take on Nazi Zombies.” I would have been nice if they told us, Is it local co-op? How many players? Does the story follow characters we meet in the SP campaign or new ones? Does it still take place in the same corner of Europe? Today’s focus was the single player campaign but don’t worry more information will be available at E3.
As for multiplayer Activision revealed the first early details about multiplayer but very little so don’t expect a lot.
Activision did hint at a new mode called War Mode that will let players take part in famous historic World War II battles, with different objectives for each team depending on whether you’re the Allies or the Axis. Instead of character classes, players will now have Divisions. Again, Activision didn’t reveal many specifics but did say Divisions will include infantry and armored options. Between matches, players will hang out in Headquarters, a “robust social space” that sounds similar in concept to the Tower in Destiny. Activision promises “interaction, recognition, and awards unlike anything experienced in the franchise to date.” A private multiplayer beta will also be available for players who preorder Call of Duty: WWII. The beta will launch first on PS4.
You guys will have to be patient until E3 arrives in June to get more details on the game.
