EA Kills Off Online Passes for Future Games
« on: May 15, 2013, 08:34:10 PM »

EA has decided to kill off online passes for their future games.  Online passes were used in games such as Madden or Battlefield 3 to make people who bought a used game have to pay an extra fee to play the multiplayer portion of the game.  This did not affect people who bought the game new.  All future EA games (including Battlefield 4) will not have online passes anymore.

Marketing strategy to "beat" Activision.  Not that it's not good for us, but it's far from a benevolent gesture to gamers.  Activision's cash cow (WoW) lost something like 2mil subscribers in the last quarter, pay to play multi-player (above and beyond game purchase price) isn't selling well.
