While I was running around on Patrol last night on Venus I ran across a group of players opening the Vault and entering.  I was half tempted to follow behind just to see how far I could get into the vault with out actually playing the mission.

I'm sure at some point they would disappear at one of the limited respawn points.

If you followed them through the door, you might have been able to get into the first loot chest and grab some ascendant material upgrades for yourself. I don't think respawns are restricted until you get to the Templar, which is after the chest.

Is a legendary cloak required to join the raid? Also, should I watch a video so that I know what to expect?

Definitely look at the vids. Don't need legendary cloak

Sweet! Raid going good so far! Just on the final part, so thanks everyone that's teaming up to tackle this. Definitely not impossible so far, especially with the right strategies. I'll be updating the OP some time this weekend with more info.

How long do you think it took to reach the final boss?  A few hours?

I'm glad to hear you guys are about done.

An hour? Maybe more but nothing really stood out as overly difficult. There are some serious moments of cheese, but hey I'll take whatever makes it easier. Curious to see how we handle this final section. Much more teamwork required, so well see what tomorrow brings. I'm definitely excited.

Sounds awesome.

What kind of team are you running with?  (Hunter/Titan/Warlock count)
Have any of the classes ability's proved more useful over another?

Any abilities proving to be useless?  (blink over boost?)

If I can get a few more shards to upgrade my armor I might be ready to attempt a raid on sunday if any one would like to get together for that.

Phase 1 of the final fight done and checkpointed. Took us a lot of attempts but once we plotted a solid strategy, it didn't take too long. Holding those synch plates when we didn't have to was definitely our demise. Atheon looks promising. The mechanics don't seem too difficult, we just have to be consistent with our methods and not die.

EDIT:
As for what classes and whatnot..I think we've got a mix of everything. At least two hunters and a titan and a warlock. I can't speak for others but I've been finding bladedancer very handy as a hunter. Good for clearing several minions and you can also utilize blink jump, especially during the final stage of the raid. There are a lot of moments where it is advantageous to blink past strong minions when rushing the relics/rushing with the relic. I can say the self resurrections by the warlocks certainly helps in sticky situations. Saves having to run around risking death to revive other players.

Just noticed that 6 TA players on Xbox One have Flawless Raider. Two of them also have it on Xbox 360, so Flawless Raider must unlock automatically if it has already been done (as apparently every achievement does).
