E3 2015 Conference Central
« on: June 10, 2015, 02:27:23 PM »

June 14-17

The biggest event in gaming only comes once a year. This is where all the companies come together to reveal their biggest projects and show you why you need to buy their systems or games. Almost every year someone manages to have a massive surprise that delights fans. It could be the reboot to a franchise, free games when you didn’t expect it, or even a brand new console. No new consoles should be announced this year, but we can expect some peripherals to get some of the spotlight.

Unlike past E3s, this one is packed with conferences. Along with the usual Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft, there are several that are new to the show. Bethesda will be kicking off the event a full day before the rest of the companies with their first solo conference. Square Enix is jumping in near the end to show their games. It will likely be a focus on Kingdom Hearts, but to have your own conference just for one game doesn’t seem likely. Rounding out the show is a PC Gamers’ Show. This is a collaboration of multiple companies from Twitch, Blizzard, AMD and more. They’ve never really shown PC-only games at E3 before so this could be anything you could imagine.

This section is completely centered around providing you with the time of each event and where to watch it. Information is cut down to the essentials so it’s easy to find everything. For a more in-depth look at each show, check the second section for the rumors and assumptions leading up to the main event. The final section is for trailers. Some of them may not make the cut, but most will at least be linked. Have a great E3!

Information Center

NOTE: All information below is based on facts, rumors with at least reasonable sources, or assumptions based on information given. Since E3 always has secret reveals not everything below is guaranteed to happen. This is purely to sum up some of the major titles that could appear or rumors that have been circulating the internet leading up to the big event.

Virtual reality gadgets have started to creep into production and some are planned to be released in the very near future. Sony has shown off their "Project Morpheus" while Microsoft has been quietly working. E3 will be changing that. HoloLens has been confirmed for the event and we'll get our first look at the thing. From early reports it uses the motion tracking of Kinect as well as projecting images onto the surfaces of your room. Of course all of this could have changed and now it's a TV screen attached to your head by a rubber band. It's new technology that they're going to be selling, just like Windows 10 and the features with that will also be a major point they want to push.

Which side are you on?
In the last year we've gone from knowing the Chief was wandering the desert, to finding out he's being hunted by another spartan. The multiplayer Beta earlier this year went well, with mixed feelings for appeal. At this conference, if the pattern repeats itself, 343I will be giving us our first look at gameplay from the campaign. Who is Locke? Why is he hunting the Chief? Why is Arbiter helping Locke? So far we have more questions than answers. While campaign should be the focus, 343I will likely take the opportunity to show the multiplayer and what changes they made after feedback received from the beta. Not to mention the custom Xbox One console should be revealed. Halo is the system selling franchise for Xbox. They can't pull any punches after the issues with The Master Chief Collection.

Forza has always been about the cars. This year's version is no different. Returning to the Motorsport series Ford will be joining Turn 10 to present the new Ford GT for its 50th anniversary. For anyone that bought the previous entry, Forza 5, and dealt with the limited content of that, this should change things. The developers have had more experience with the system, time to develop, and plenty of feedback from the community. As a game that goes through pain staking effort to scan every inch of a real car or track then develop that into the breath taking detail of the game, it's a lot of time and effort. Now that they have a foundation of tracks and cars to expand on, the next game should add more variety and improve upon what was done with Forza 5.
GT = Go Time.

I hate bugs
The Gears franchise has been silent for a few years and Microsoft plans to change that. After Epic sold the rights to the franchise to Microsoft a new studio called Black Tusk, now called The Coalition, has been quietly working. We've seen some brief gameplay leak for a remaster of the original game. While not confirmed by Microsoft, we know it exists. Whether it's the first game or a bundle like Master Chief Collection we don't know. Don't forget, The Coalition is still making a new entry in the series. They've had a couple years and teased some concept art in the past. Best of all, they've confirmed it will be shown at E3 this year.

Treyarch is making another CoD. Yes, that means zombies are returning. Typically the CoD section of the press conference involves showing sections of the campaign, announcing the early access of DLC on Xbox, then brief details about the secondary mode in the game. Zombies has been quite a popular mode so they may show gameplay. We never know. Just stay tuned to the CoD board and someone will let you know the latest news.
Does it have Zombies? (Yes)

Shhh. I'm hunting Wabbits.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was a surprise last year that turned into quite the controversy. With the announcement of it being an exclusive to Xbox, which was later clarified as a timed exclusive, many fans were upset. Now that we've had a year to let the controversy settle we should hear how the game is progressing through development. It is scheduled for release later this year so we should get a good look at the story this time around.

I'm going to say it right now, EA is going to hit it out of the ballpark with their conference. They have to. Battlefront 3 needs to be a huge presence in the show with plenty of information on what modes are available and what we can expect. Visceral has been dead silent for over a year working on their secret Star Wars project. I'm betting it gets to see the light this time. Mirror's Edge has a tentative release early next year and they need to show why this isn't a reboot of a cult classic, it's the gold standard in movement mechanics and control along with an engaging story. Need for Speed went dark for a year of redeveloping the series based on fan feedback. You see, EA has some heavy hitters lined up with something to prove. Not to mention they have Mass Effect in development to spring on us at any time.

Sports. It's an entire division in EA so you know they're coming with something. The new Golf game, which no longer has Tiger Woods on it, was first shown last year in development. Due to the release being pushed back until after E3 the only question is will they try to sell this new game, or show the version for next year and hope it still sells? Madden, FIFA, NHL or any of the other sports could be shown all with the same "We've added something new" promise. We'll be the judge of that.
Board no hit back.

I've never understood this logo.
Need for Speed has been undergoing a change during the last year and our first look at the results should be here. As one of the longest running yearly franchises the announcement was a surprise. With the time taken off hopefully it will have some much needed improvements to give it a new, fresh feel. Nothing has been mentioned about it so far. It could be a new Hot Pursuit, Undercover, or a brand new entry. We'll just have to see.

This is a shot in the dark, but I'm betting Visceral will at least reveal the theme of their Star Wars project at E3 this year. As a more story driven developer than action, it could be quite a few things from the universe. My personal hope is Republic Commando 2. The dark style and action of the game mixed with the skill of the developers of Dead Space could be the dream team for this. Of course, a bounty hunter story or something based on cancelled projects from the Lucas Arts collapse, like 1313, would be great as well. They may need another year of production before a reveal, but there is a chance we can get some news very soon. So far, they've only teased with pictures of the studio with Han Solo figures popping up occasionally.
Han Solo the video game?

Come to the Dark Side.
It's been two years since the teaser that got our excitement. Still, no gameplay. Pre-rendered scenes showing what the battle could be like, but not an actual person doing the actions. They've shown it behind closed doors, now they need to show everyone. Bits and pieces of information have been coming out about how little content will be on the game. DICE needs to address this by showing they have things in place we don't know about, or they will be adding content for a reasonable price. The Battlefront name is a lot to live up to and DICE has to show they can keep the fans happy.

A reboot to a series which only had one game may seem odd, but this is one game that truly deserves it. While the original was lacking when it came to a story, it had impressive game mechanics that put all of the movements of a free runner into your hand. For those that played it, either it was thoroughly enjoyable or the worst game ever due to difficulty. DICE needs to stay true to the roots of the game which made it a cult classic while simplifying things to be welcoming to more people. With an early 2016 tentative release date this really is their biggest opportunity to show that. It's a major opportunity that could sink or swim the series as a whole.
Test of Faith?

Ubisoft is the master of the unexpected at these conferences. Just when you think they won't have anything to show, something like Watch_Dogs, The Division or Rainbow Six: Siege makes an appearance. Just Dance seems to be the usual returning series along with Assassin's Creed so at least we have something we know will be there. All we really know is it could be interesting.

Like Minecraft, these graphics can't get outdated.
Just Dance is the popular yearly franchise for a wide variety of people. Most of them don't have any interest in these conferences. Still, it's one thing they always do. Grab a snack or a bathroom break during this time if you want to avoid large flash mobs of people dancing during a video game event.

Last year Ubisoft decided it was a good idea to release two games in the AC series. That went well, so now they're doing four. What? I can't do sarcasm in here? Anyway, a trilogy of art book style games under the "Chronicles" name will release this year. We've already seen China, which should be much like the others to come. The major retail release will be Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, though. Set in Victorian England this new game has no multiplayer of any kind and adds several new gadgets to work with. Expect to see some campaign gameplay and a fancy new trailer since Assassin's Creed games always have top notch trailers at E3.
You didn't see anything up my sleeve...

Uh, taxi?
We keep getting little samples of The Division each year to keep our interest, but it never seems to get any closer. Now the current expected release is later this year so we may get our final tease of gameplay before the trickle of details leading up to release. Nothing new has been revealed since last time, so we're all waiting for the next surprise.

As mentioned in the Xbox section, virtual reality peripherals are coming soon. Project Morpheus was the surprise from last year and with several future titles already listing support of it they're likely to give the price point and release window this year. Before that happens we need to see it in action, and they know that. Most of the titles using it now will likely be indie. Although a big franchise name like Uncharted could be used for a selling point. The PS4 has been going strong so they could keep things going as they are or announce major incentives to make you buy.

Destiny was one of the most hyped games of last year which ended with disappointment in most cases. The story is lacking, but the mechanics and core of the game are solid. Last month the final expansion pack Bungie included in the season pass released. Some may think that's everything until Destiny 2, but that's not likely. Before Destiny was even announced the contract with Activision said there would be a large expansion in the year following its release. Here we are, and there's no bigger stage to announce it at. There have already been leaks and rumors of an expansion called "The Taken King" which Bungie filed a trademark for a month ago. Bungie has already said they will be there to tease, so this is what we can expect from them.
Xur has what we want.

I wouldn't want to be the Thief.
Uncharted is one of the most popular games on PlayStation, but they're all on the PS3. Not for long! A bundle has been announced that ports all of the previous games to PS4. But, there is no multiplayer. Instead, buying this bundle is the only way to participate in the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta. Since we don't really know anything About Uncharted 4 right now this will be a big part of Sony's presentation.

NOTE: I'm not a PlayStation owner and don't really follow their games. Instead of trying to guess what I don't know about I left this section brief. Enjoy the surprises of the conference!

Nintendo won't be doing a conference this year, it's another Nintendo Direct. The format of these tend to be slower than the stage conferences and have a more relaxed vibe. It's Nintendo. With the new partnership with DENA and the plan to have more mobile support we may see some of that this year. Or none at all since Nintendo keeps secrets for a long time. Another secret project is their new console. Once again, they have confirmed that it will not be shown this year. If we know a new one is coming is the Wii U doomed already?

Also going on is the first Nintendo World Championships in 25 years. Players have already gone through the qualifiers and the main event will be at E3. You'll be able to watch the final round on Twitch this Sunday at 3PM Pacific, 6PM Eastern.

Our first look at gameplay from the new Legend of Zelda game showed new mechanics for Epona and how you work with her. The Wii U pad will also function like a map and assist you in finding your objective. The main objective and storyline of the game haven't been revealed yet so hopefully this is the year. With the Wii U getting to the end of its life span they need to get it out soon. There is a chance it could be delayed for a release on both the new console and current like Twilight Princess did. For such a big title that may not be a bad idea.
You'll get the point.

Do a barrel roll!
The Star Fox series has been silent on consoles since the last entry on the GameCube. A new game has already been promised to release before the new Zelda game which means it will be at the show this year. Nintendo has already said there will be a playable version at the show, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be shown in their presentation.

One of the odd games Nintendo has coming up is Mario Maker. It's a create your own map for the classic side scrolling adventure. It seems a lot like Nintendo's version of Little Big Planet. Along with being part of the show for E3, a playable version will be available at select Best Buy stores for several days during the conference. The link isn't posted yet or I can't find it so that will be posted later.
Your princess is in another castle.

Their first E3 conference means we don't really know what to expect. Fallout 4 and the new Doom are a given, but they could have news of a new Elder Scrolls as well. They must have something big to make their own show.

Success!
Everyone has wanted Fallout 4 for quite some time. The official reveal trailer showed the general environment, which is about the same as the other games, and an intro to the new story. Also mentioned is that the first look at gameplay will be shown during their conference. It's all fresh news so there isn't much else to go on.

A new Doom was announced with a very short 10 second gameplay trailer. Other than current-gen graphics and seeing some enemies it didn't reveal much. More will be coming from the conference so stay tuned.
You ugly.

Another new presenter this year is Square Enix. Several of their big franchises are currently in development or releasing soon so why not showcase all of them I guess. Rise of the Tomb Raider was mentioned in the Microsoft section, but it will also be in this presentation, likely with more detail. Square Enix is also teasing a new IP they will reveal. Most of the developers will have something like that, but they don't say it.

Key to success?
Kingdom Hearts is a well known popular franchise from the PlayStation which hasn't seen a new console game in several years. The announcement that a new one is coming, and it's also on Xbox, was a big surprise. For those that don't know, it's an adventure game that uses characters from the Disney universe to shape the story. Now that Disney owns Star Wars will they reveal anything from that series being added to the game? It's possible, but so are a lot of things with such a wide catalog of characters to use.

Deus Ex is a series mainly on the PC. As a console gamer I don't know much about it except for the constant praise from fans. These games allow you to choose how to progress through a story. Kill everyone, or no one at all. It's up to you. The latest entry, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, should be much of the same. So far we've only had a cinematic trailer to get an idea for the story so something bigger could be coming soon.
So cool that glasses are part of my face.

TL;DR

Tons of games coming. Most of it we don't know for sure. E3 is going to be exciting, as usual.

For everyone reading the first post, make sure you check the dates for each of the conferences. They're spread out quite a bit. Oculus surprised everyone by announcing a conference yesterday, which starts tomorrow. That's why it isn't mentioned anywhere else in this.

GET HYPE!

Can't wait to see what Microsoft has to offer (plus I'd like to see a GwG overhaul), and I wanna see the new Zelda! That game will single handedly sell me a Wii U. As for PS4, I've never owned their platforms so I'm always excited to see what they have. Bloodborne got me VERY close to purchasing a PS4, but the price was still too much for me. I know it's unlikely, but I'd like to see a price drop with bundles. I'm not sure how much time I'll spend on my PS4 outside of the set few exclusive titles that I'm interested in. PS+ is much more varied in game offerings so I'm sure that would bring value and playtime to the console for me. We'll see what gets announced!

Did anyone catch the Oculus conference? They seem to have a deal with Microsoft where you can use it with Xbox one and Windows 10 games. And more is to come at E3, so we'll probably hear that at Microsoft's conference. It also launches Q1 2016, but no price was given. I'm guessing there will be a connection between the Rift and HoloLens.
