Title: Looking For Group - Crota's End
Post by: TravisSch on December 08, 2014, 04:50:05 AM
Since the Dark Below expansion is coming out this week, I figured it was time to start a new raid discussion and team set up thread for Crota's End.  This thread will contain spoilers to the Crota's End raid, so beware!

This raid recommends Level 30 characters to play the Normal version of the raid.  Your character should be near or at Level 30 or higher to participate.  However, the new DLC gear will have more light levels and will allow your character to get to Level 30 or higher once upgraded.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A TEAM, PLEASE POST YOUR CONSOLE, LEVEL, AND CLASS. This will make it easier for people to find the appropriate team members.

Any characters less than Level 30 should probably not participate.
This neither accurate nor is it fair. That is the recommended level suggested by Bungie. You'll only need the Fireteam leader to be Level 30 to participate.

Doing the regular raid with lower level characters was fairly annoying even with maxed weapons, I'd assume doing the new one (especially learning it) would be the exact same.

It really depends on the composition of the team. We carried Seth through VoG once when he was a 24. It helps to be at the same or higher level than the enemies but it's not necessary.

I changed the wording a slight bit to say your character should be near Level 30 to participate.  I wasn't trying to insult you or anyone by saying Level 30 was the bare minimum.  I just know that reading from other sources that most people recommend being at the required level or higher if you want a good experience.

Not insulted whatsoever. I have had 3 characters at LVL 30 for weeks and know the pain of running the raid with the de-buff you receive from helping lower LVL players through. Like Arby said its who you are running with and if you are willing to help someone or not. I just think saying that players should stay away because you are under leveled isn't necessary. Good news for people who haven't hit 30 yet, you can purchase higher light level armor from vendors on the tower. With a repurchased/upgraded exotic piece of armor and 3 pieces of the new improved crucible/vanguard armor you can hit light LVL 31 and you don't even need the DLC.

Crota has met his end, in 5 hrs and 58 mins. Congrats Team InvigorateINV! Wow, with 4 LVL29's too!

People on reddit are saying that the team entered the raid as 30s and dropped to 29 when they equipped their new raid gear. Still - very impressive.

Here's the location of the first chest.

Destiny: Crotas End Exotic Chest Location! Raid Weapons, Armor & Radiant Materials (Dark Below DLC) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tb-Fm_AZAV4#ws)

I'm very happy with this placement. Even though I'm level 29 I can still start the Raid for some reason. Even if I don't run it with people this should mean I can grab something from it each week since it's so early on.

EDIT: And I can confirm this can be done solo. Got myself 2 Radiant Shards. B.net has some people saying they got exotic items or raid gear from this chest so this is a great place to grab things if you can't get a team.

I know where both chests are. By the way, at the end, the enemies are level 32. That's a good one hit to any 30, let alone a 29. I don't know if I should feel lucky or jipped now since I got two dragon's breaths...

This is the first guide I have seen to getting through the first encounter, which is dealing with the lamps and forming the bridge.  Looks tough!  I'm going to hate thralls..

I'm going to wait a little bit and get to Level 30 or 31 before attempting to do the raid.

that lamp section is a pain in the butt
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End
Post by: Hypna on December 10, 2014, 11:12:45 AM
The lamp section is easy. Have one person stay behind for revives, then send the other five into the frey. One person has to make it. If you can get a single body on the point, it will build the bridge for you. Once the bridge is built, the medic comes from behind and gets revives. You then make a mad dash for the exit, completely disregarding the enemies. On the other side just get those blocks behind you so the shreks can't shoot you. One person makes it there, and you're in.
Edit: I remember now that they are ogres. I couldn't think of the name.
If you guys need any help with anything, just tell me what part. I know some pretty good strats for the entire raid. (I will be 31.5 as soon as I max my gear. Gunning for 32 by the time Xur leaves.)

After watching somebody's video of their raid last night. Would rather know what needs to be done in the Raid... their video went on for 7 1/2 hours (trust me, I watched an hour before deciding to come off the video).

I will eventually be interested in doing a run. I had 2 items in my inventory Tuesday which will allow me to get up to 30.5 (with Vault Chest and Gauntlets).
That Hard Vault Helmet is still top of my wish list even if it will hold me back from 32.

I will keep an eye out for you guys doing the run and look out for available slots.

Saw a video of Crota's End done in 30 minutes. Team was comprised of 5 31s and a 30.

Same strategy as we used for the first section, done in 8 minutes.

Executed the bridge section same as us, just smoother. The 31s can drop the Knights in 4 swipes of the sword.

It's all about your level, changes everything.

Want to run this tonight and finish it.

Post by: ContactTango on December 15, 2014, 11:41:20 AM
Okay, here's the strategy for Crota after watching several videos of teams that did it successfully.

First, it's all about timing and DPS.

The sword wielder needs to stay VERY close to Crota to be within striking distance. You need to be on him as soon as his shield pop and he takes a knee. 2-3 Gjallahorns need to go out simultaneously as the swordweilder hits the platform to hit Crota. The best combo for attacking him in terms of damage and timing is RB, RB, RB, RT. From what I've seen, no other combo including super does the trick and gets you out alive.

When Crota gets back up, EVERYONE needs to shoot him immediately to put him back down. We all need to hang out, as a team, in top left. You use the room to reload. There seems to be minimal enemy traffic up top.
The swordweilder MUST stay close enough to be back in on him and hit him again.

Apparently it takes between 20-25 strikes from the sword to kill him. So, 4 shots (RB, RB, RB, RT), two times per sword wield is eight total hits. So, a minimum of three sword wields if run perfectly.

The swordweilder does not pick up the sword until Crota arrives in a spot. If he's been hang in out somewhere we wait to see if he's going to move.

During Ogres, we ALL run to lower mid. Far back to kill them.

Also, everyone needs to keep eyes on towers to hit Knights or they'll blast the swordweilder.

This. My group positions an Icebreaker equipped guardian on each side upper platform (inside the room - left and right) to shoot the knights while everyone else is below killing the swordbearer. I found it best to put one headshot into each knight first and wait to finish them off just as the sword wielder is about to attack Crota. When it's "Ogre Time" the snipers head down, lower mid to help. So, one shot to the knights and just as the Sword bearer approaches take out the knights and then focus fire on Crotas shield. We got so close to taking him down last night, we just need 3 clean runs. Hopefully tonight!

EDIT: I just saw this, and one person can do it efficiently, it just takes a bit more skill. This allows for faster takedowns on Crota's shield while saving Gjallarhorn ammo.

Contact, instead of having everybody try to frantically kill the knights together, designate one sniper specifically for knights. This person should have an icebreaker, and stay to the left of the team on Ir Yut's level. (Facing Crota.) This person has to be pretty clutch/sniper elite because they only get the chalice when ogres spawn and the have to go down. It really helps a lot, my group has run it successfully many times now with this set up.

It may not be by design, but Crota's End is far more welcoming to solo players compared to VoG. Obviously the first chest is easy but that's not what I mean. After some guides on Youtube for how to get through the lamp section alone it's just learning the triggers for the bridge. So far I'm at the Shrieker hall and I've never gotten any help. Got the Raid gloves from the lamp completion so that was nice.  ;D

@Flatty: That was impressive and quite helpful. Now I have something to look forward to once I hit 31. Level 29 can't deal enough damage in the final area.

@Tango: My Titan and Hunter are in that area and that jumping trick should help a lot. Thanks!

I'll add another video. (Not the one where I learned how to do it, but I can't find it.)

I'd be curious to try something. I wonder if a team of six went in, one guy does the lamp glitch, kills the ogre and activates the bridge, if the rest of the team could just run up and cross.

It's interesting that the ogre is the key to getting the bridge formed. it's not a time thing. It's all contingent on killing the ogre, just like the second bridge.
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End
Post by: Flatty on December 18, 2014, 05:05:55 PM
I think the checkpoint is crossing the bridge into the light. Players would have to be revived on the starting platform where you land from the drop.
Actually, your idea might work CT. We've had just one fireteam member alive and crossing the bridge and we all scored loot then spawned at the swordbearer bridge. It's worth a shot.
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End
Post by: Stig Assassin on December 18, 2014, 08:22:23 PM
I'm sure it would work. Once the bridge forms it should teleport everyone to the next area when you walk through. You can't have a fireteam in two different loading zones. I'm also fairly certain the ogre is just a tougher enemy you need to kill for survival and not a trigger. He's the only enemy that can hit you while on the rock. The plate continues to construct the bridge, you just have to be alive when it gets done.

I haven't seen anyone complete that first section with no deaths yet. That may trigger a new chest. Since getting to the second lap can be a challenge I would suggest everyone move to the first and provide cover fire for the one going ahead, then run back to the start and wait. I've noticed area-of-effect grenades do a great job forming a quick barrier to give you the time to get in position for the launch.

I'm not sure of the exact criteria for the bridge glitch but I ran it solo and summoned the Swordbearer, killed him then summoned another and stood on a pillar shooting enemies on the other side. Eventually, the wizards appeared then the Ogres. After taking them out I got the Titan raid chest armor and radiant energy. This will for sure get patched but get in there and get your loot while you can!

Another way to do this is to kill the swordbearer from the middle. (Step off whenever the pillar thingy activates) And rush over to the other side to kill the gatekeeper. Just stay alive until you kill the ogres and the wizard. This is harder, but is less likely to get patched.

By getting that helmet I'll be able to hit level 32. Now to grind for radiant shards. Neo and i did  a shard run tonight. We got the chest at the lamp section and then ran back to the start area. I switched to my 2nd character while he waited then I got the chest. He then swapped out and got the chest. Then we did the same thing for our 3rd characters. Easy way to get 6 shards.

Just noticed the Grimoire for completing 50 Raids didn't pop last night. I have 49 VoGs and 1 Crota's End. Apparently they're not linked. So, looks like I need a VoG to make it Grimoire official. Now I want to see a Warlock do it solo.

Ran the first three loot drops for three characters and I got 12 shards and 2 energy. Also got the boots for my Warlock so all I need is the chestpiece and I could hit 32.

Well that was exciting. I just finished the first part of the raid solo. Made it over the first bridge. Used the lamp exploding glitch to get to the end, killed the order while the bridge formed and then ran across for some ascendant energy. Lame.

If you have an Icebreaker or Fatebringer it's really easy to solo legit.

Thanks for the raid guys. I got enough shards that my boots are maxed.
Now just the last 3 nodes on my helmet and arms and I'll be a 32.

Nice dude. Think we developed a good strategy for the 'singer last night. Didn't get much from the raid aside form radiant shards and Black Hammer. Excited to level that up. Still need boots for my Titan. Hoping for some good drops with my Hunter tonight.

Ya it was a shard run for me last night, (6 radiant and 4 energy) but I'll take as much radiant shards as I can get. I want that 32 bad!
They really need to give us a drop for the singer. That part is a royal pain.

All I need is more radiant shards and I'm a 32 now.

And Marc, the black hammer is amazing once you get the stability perk unlocked. Then getting white nail to proc is easy. And overpowered, it's literally free ammo. Shot Sepiks Prime 12 times in a row even though I only had six rounds of ammo at the time. The bigger the precision hit zone is the better. Took down a walker in one vulnerability stage on the moon because of White Nail

That's the crouch launch from the rock to the upper level, right?

So I would assume most of you have done the Raid by now. Would anyone be interested in doing it from a Deathsinger checkpoint (XB1)? My 30 Titan can't make it all the way alone yet.

Yep, that's the one. As for the crota run, this is why you need to be on ps4. I could help out with my 32 hunter.

Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End
Post by: Stig Assassin on January 06, 2015, 06:22:09 AM
The above still applies so I'll join for a Crota run, or anywhere really if I can get some guns. I've gone up to the Shrieker room on all three characters already. (XB1)

So, I got the last piece of armor needed to hit 32 for my Warlock. I've been hoarding shards as well so I can put all of them into hitting that rank. My problem is, I'm determined to do the full Raid solo deathless for the achievement before they patch anything and I'm not sure a Warlock can. Crota is my only real concern. The jump to the higher level from the video posted earlier is easy for a Titan but barely possible for a Warlock. So, does anyone think it could be possible, or should I wait a week for my missing Titan boots and hope they don't patch it?
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End
Post by: SpecOp3 on January 06, 2015, 08:51:41 AM
I attempted it. On both my 31 Titan and 31 warlock ( 6 shards from 32 ).

Titan is much more resilient to AOE blasts from anything then a Warlock. If I had ever managed to kill the Deathsinger with either of those attempts I imagine 1 hit from Crota when he's that close would kill the Warlock but not a Titan. If you watch the video he gets hit a couple times and barely has any health left. 1 hit from Crotas boomer and he was down close to 30%. So I think anyone can solo up Crota with great execution, but will probably need 32 for Crota unless you perform it flawlessly and never get hit by him.

I'll go for it. Eris rank 4 isn't that far away so my energy can be converted to rank up the Titan faster.

Since I've only been in one raid and never used the sword on Crota what is the best button combo to kill him? From the videos it looks like: melee, melee, melee, slam. Is there a reason the super isn't used at the end?
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End
Post by: SpecOp3 on January 07, 2015, 08:36:36 AM
Slam Slam Slam. All while trying to run through him to get the increased slam speed. Not sure about the super.

As for the ogre bridge though. The glitch on the mobs still works but when the ogres eventually popped up the totems activated. Perhaps getting 2 people across the bridge before the ogres pop up will prevent this?

With a Titan and a Warlock. You just, jump. Lol

First off, don't sprint, it won't work ever if you hit the sprint button. Secondly try to stay and jump more towards the left of the rock. And last off, it's all about precision on your takeoff really.

Well toughness and agility lol. Those thrall don't mess around. Everyone's main problem is the fact they think they are supposed to jump off the very edge of the rock like normal. Weight of darkness throws you off in general.

You need more height before you are too far away from the light. Logical way to solve this? Jump sooner.

I got a random inv from a buddy. We did the whole raid. I only needed to beat Crota with that character but I knew my buddy so I took a risk on the group. My buddy smashed on Crota with his 32 hunter. Then we decided to beat him again.
This time around my only character left needing to run crota this week was my 32 Lock who I didn't much care to worry about right away. This time I was on sword duty, for my first time. It took me a few try's to get the hang on it but I got it now.  Took longer for one of my teammates to learn how to stop dying every time I went to smash Crota.

So yea, I officially can smash the smash on Crotas face. Oh, And I got a Hunger of Crota for doing so. ^_^

I got a random invite in the Tower yesterday for Crota's End.  I joined the group, got to Crota but did not finish off Crota yet.  I'll probably find a group tonight and finish that part up.

I learned you can still cheese the bridge part of the raid.  The group I was in went all the way to the back, despawned the enemies (except the Swordbearer).  2 people went over the bridge and spawned the end sequence with the Ogres and Wizards.  I don't know how they did it but apparently its still cheeseable (I made that word up).

not surprisingly they patched the sword bridge so no more despawning the minions
You really think so?

Got my Hunter up to 32 so now I have 2 characters ready for hard mode. Got Song of Ir Yut Finally. Such an amazing Lmg.

Also in that video Neo posted, As a person who has been the sword bearer quite a few times, and killed Crota almost as many times, I have done it with quite a few different groups. If his shields are not down to zero within 2-3 seconds after I say to drop him then I'm probably dead if I'm already out there running for him.

In the video he said you needed to have faith your team would drop him fast enough. I have had to many times when people say he's going down and he doesn't. So really, the part that most seem to have trouble with is putting out enough dps on Crota fast enough when that 2-3 second margin pops up.

Agreed, especially for Hard Mode.  No Chalice of Light in Hard means you need ways to regen your health.  Titan Bubbles, Red Death (with regen health ability), or Suros Regime (with possible regen ability) are pretty much needed.

the titan bubble with blessing of light will be the best health regen option but there is still some armor that gives health when you pick up an orb

Here's another guide on completing the Hard Crota's End Raid:

Planet Destiny: Crota's End - Hard Mode Guide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3a09DT0z3c#ws)

I've pretty much learned that during the Crota fight, when you get his health to 15-20%, then he enrages automatically and spawns oversouls.  You pretty much need to take Crota down as soon as the oversoul summoning begins because it becomes difficult to take down oversouls over and over again.

Honestly from what I've seen with this HM I don't see a point in doing the raid once you get the primaries which from what I've seen loads of people have gotten 2 of the weapons in one run. You don't appear to get double drops from chests and all like you do in VOG. Maybe that's bugged or something but once I get the primaries I doubt I'll run HM and just run regular for shards/energy.

Sooooo many rockets!

Getting three chances on him with the first sword is gonna be tough but a skilled blade dancer with a team of people that know how to down Crota, plus the two titans for the boomers.
Well I already have a hunter at 32 so there's that. Unfortunately my Titan keeps getting boned on his boots so he's only 31 but I just got Glasshouse and Insurmountable skullfort. So once I level those up my Titan will be helpful to beat Crota.

So I guess it looks like we aren't gonna try and beat Crota tonight?

Hard mode Crota, dead. I feel accomplished.

And again. ^_^

Got a useless helm for my lock, my third icebreaker, and Glowhoo.
Then for my hunter I got, Glowhoo, S13 Graverobber (new sparrow), and Bane of Dark Gods (hard mode ship)
Oh and I also finally got my hunters helmet. It has Infusion on it! (Orbs for health)

Oh and using the Suros is a waste of time and energy especially if you have a Ghorn. Every class can regen health without a special armor piece so just use you're ward of dawn/hungering blade/ or energy drain and get over the fact you can't grab chalice, it's not that hard to deal with really. If you get an armor piece that can regen health from orbs, awesome that makes it a little easier, but it's not required and nor is the Suros or Red death.

This tactic is the best I've seen so far. I mean hell we beat it with this tactic
Link (http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2t80iy/worlds_fastest_hard_mode_crota_kill/)

A couple differences from the video than what we did. You don't need a Titan at all. It helps a little but you don't need it. If you have a Titan you don't have him run up like that with the swordbearer. You just have him place his bubble on the right side pathway leading to Crota and agro the right side boomers so they shoot at him once the swordbearer dies. If you don't have a Titan you just have a warlock or Hunter draw the boomer fire by jumping around in the same spot the bubble would go. It's very easy to do. One of the guys was recording. I will post it when I get a link.
Oh and with our tactic, we didn't have to deal with ogres. Killed Crota with 2 swordbears. You have to get 3 swing sessions with your first session being 4 hits, second being 3 hits and third being 1 or 2 hits. Keep in mind this is the same sword on the three sessions.

Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End
Post by: Trysten on January 26, 2015, 07:08:15 PM
Just beat Crota with yet again another Destinylfg.net group. Making that my 3rd Hard mode completion and no Crux. But I finally got one of the two primaries from him. The word of crota does so much work against vex!

So here's the best advice ever. Don't worry about boomers, at all.

Yep you heard me, don't worry about boomers. The sword carrier should most definitely be a hunter. What you do is you start out like normal but you need to make orbs for your sword carrier. If you're just starting out for the night you may have to wipe after the first try just so the warlocks can make orbs with their supers.

After both sides are clear you go to the mid like we did last night,(Outside on the shield wall opposite from the crystal room hanging off the ledge where nothing can get you.) Then you drop the swordbearer. Sword carrier activates his super, slices over for speed and then get behind the box thing right there to activate your RT invisibility and then grab the sword. Run to the right side rock, hop up to the altar. At that point call out to your team to fire. Next step? Get behind Crota, like right up on the altar. Boomers can't see you from there.

(Get up on the altar for yourself before spawning crota. You will see what I mean when you can't see the windows in the towers)
Then do 3 or 4 smashes, Blink Strike, 3 or 4 smashes then everyone get back to the crystal. Rinse and repeat once again. Then run to the ogre room on the right. Kill said ogre, then stay in the room and kill the other ogre. Run back to the Crystal room. If you're sword carrier did right then crota should die in 2 more knees. Just be sure not to drop his health below 20-25% until you're on that third sword.

If done right up until this point you pretty much have it. You want to just chill in the crystal room until Crota goes to the left or right and then back mid before going out for the third sword.

Also to help with not getting shot by boomers when running inside or back outside. Have a Titan place a bubble right outside the door you're running in/out of. I think by know all our Titans realize Blessing of light is the most helpful for hard mode.

Oh and the team I did it with had 3 of us at lvl 31 lol. A full team of 32s is far from required, as long as they know what they are doing and know how to not die.
And one more thing to keep in mind. It takes exactly 15 RT smashes to enrage crota. So count to 14 and stop, do ogres, get that third sword and kill crota.

Also, having the swordbearing Hunter use his super for his first invisibility instead of crouch invis is best for it allows you to stay invisible longer and you're completely safe while going for the sword. Just be sure to be running shadowjack!

Here's another strategy that was posted to /r/destinythegame:

HM CROTA EASY STRATEGY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad8m6ZuquG0#ws)

- Clear adds from crystal room
- Everyone drop to right-side ogre spawn room
- Wait until Crota moves to right side, then down the Swordbearer
- Everyone exits the room and runs up the stairs, 2 Titans activate Ward of Dawn with Blessing of Light near the door to the crystal room
- Everyone except sword guy jumps out of bubble and fires a rocket to bring Crota to his knee, sword guy smashes Crota 3x and dashes back to bubble; repeat
- Everyone cycle to the left-side ogre spawn room through the crystal room
- Repeat until Crota is dead

I would like to say this is always the case, but as the swordbearer, I have seen him enrage at 14 way too many times to say this is always works out. I prefer to run a safe 3 hits per down. If you execute it correctly, you don't even need to worry about supers. Crota should fall nicely after 3 swords. (18 hits)

I might have to try this next time I need heavy ammo for the Crota section.  It involves emptying your heavy weapon that has the Surplus perk (for finding more heavy ammo).

[Destiny] Crota's End - Heavy Ammo Glitch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqv_sdk2ooI#ws)
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End

This is by far the best run I had on Crota hard mode. And if you look closely, this was before we knew you could hide from the boomers while hitting crota but we had someone jumping around drawing the attention of and dodging the right tower boomers for every sword carry.

http://youtu.be/xpVB_i0qXtU (http://youtu.be/xpVB_i0qXtU)

Oh and if you don't have a heavy weapon with surplus, you can just empty you're primary and heavy ammo then use the icebreaker for kills. Heavy ammo for days!! No more shall I use a heavy ammo synth for crota. You just have to time it right so that you run out of primary ammo when the shield goes down. Hand cannon is best to do it with. Get down to 32 total primary ammo, stand next to crystal and then waste all you're primary. You will run out just in time and watch the purple boxes fly. Kills from your allies count as well. The more kills you get before ammo fairy drops you ammo, the more heavy ammo there will be. Most I saw at once was like 15 heavy ammo boxes.

Ok I just watched that video. That guy makes it so much more effort. Surplus doesn't even have a thing to do with all the heavy ammo glitch lol. *facepalm*

No land beyond, why? Hand cannon works fine. And if you have an LMG equipped and don't switch back to a rocket launcher before ammo fairy comes around then you will lose out on those 5-7 rockets worth of ammo when you switch to a launcher. Because I'm not sure if anyone notices, but ammo fairy grabs ammo off the ground.

Edit,

I got my first Crux of Crota on my 6th hard mode completion. The Nechrocasm is so nice. Thanks again for hopping in at last minute Arby, I really appreciate it.
If anyone didn't know, when you upgrade the Eidolon Ally to the Nechrocasm with the Crux of Crota it comes fully upgraded. No need to crank xp into the gun again.

Thanks Trysten for sending me that invite! It was good to finally get a raid primary (Word of Crota).

Last night we had some problems with Crota on NM. I think we could improve by waiting to exit the room - including to pick up the Chalice - until everyone is ready to go like on HM. Then we need to down the Swordbearer within 15-20 seconds so Crota doesn't move after recharging his shield the first time. Same thing after the ogres are killed - wait to kill the Swordbearer until Crota has moved back to the middle.

Another thought: if we retreat to the room to stay safe, the only one outside drawing Crota's attention is the sword guy. Instead, if everyone stays outside and relies on the guy on boomer duty to do his job, then maybe Crota won't shoot at the sword guy.

Looks like we're running Crota tonight. Me and Neo for sure. Rick, Arby, Razor, tooth? You want in?

So...update:

Me
Neo
Rick
tooth
Arby

And yeah Arby (you traitor) we can try HM. Worth a shot.

I had a really good night, got the chest for my hunter.
Me, Arby Tooth, and Beatle managed to get to Crota on the second run which gave me enough energy to get my Warlock up to 32.

So yea, I can definitely swordbear on hard with my hunter. I finally got a chance to try it on hard, I already knew I could do it on normal with any character, but with my hunter on hard today I was able to get 3 swing sessions per sword every time. Just gotta have people that know how to drop Crotas shield. Which, IMO, it's harder for some people to learn how to drop crota than it is to swordbear in general.
Every time I've ever played Crotas end on hard, everyone of the 5 other fire team members fires one rocket and then their primaries. If you need someone on bubble duty on the right side walkway then he just fires rockets. Crotas shield is turned into butter every time. If you don't have rockets for some reason then call it out so somebody that has extra rockets can fire 2 instead of one.

Yeah, I tried it last night and some fresh new bugs were happening. We were dropping crota, everything going well. Then our sword carrier jumps up to kill him off and instead of the game glitching and disappearing the sword, it took our carrier with it. Never came that close again. Let's do this tonight, start up about 830est anyone?

Primaries drop at Lamps, Bridge, and Crota. Deathsinger has the Exotic Chest loot table.

Oversoul Edict drops from Lamps, while Abyss Defiant drops from Bridge.

Are you playing on hard or normal? Your chances of getting a black hammer, or any special/heavy raid weapons for that matter, is extremely low on hard mode I hope you know. I haven't heard of a special or heavy dropping since hard mode came out, until I played normal mode first last week. Now I have 3 black hammers and my second light of the abyss finally.

And you can only get a special or heavy raid weapon from killing Crota himself.

The Nechrocasm isn't all it's hyped up to be anyways. Not until it gets a buff anyway. I wouldn't stress too bad over getting it. Mine just sits in the vault, it's sorta useless right now to be honest. With how low the impact is, there are just so many better guns that can actually kill more than one enemy in PvP or PvE. I've had it for a few weeks now.
It's just completely upsetting to have the new raid exotic do nowhere near the effectiveness as the Vex Mythoclast. It is the raids exotic weapon after all, makes no sense for it to be as weak as it is. Especially with it sitting at 339 arc damage....

Nope, done it twice already, if you run hard first nothing drops on normal.  If you run normal first you'll still get drops on hard.  Unless bungie just likes to -blam!- with me, which is entirely possible.  Last night I ran normal on 1 character and got no reward when crota died.
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End

You don't get a drop in normal after finishing hard mode. It's no different than VoG. Do it on normal if you want normal drops. Do it on hard only if you want double the drops per drop. Makes it so you don't need to do normal mode once you have all your special/heavy weapons.

Weapons only drop from Crota on NM.

I'm down for Crota HM. I have a Deathsinger checkpoint if you don't have a Crota checkpoint.

A solid group you say. Well sir I know of a single guardian that is equivalent to a whole group, so please look no further. He consistently solo's his side the deathsinger before the other five even get about theirs. He would most certainly be at your service.

133 radiant shards, 755 ascendant shards and counting. Bungie really needs to set up a way to buy materials and/or motes of light and strange coins with all types of shards and energies. Or something at least.

No, weapon parts. For the love of all things holy, weapon parts!!

I have over 90 motes of light and all I want is Radiant Shards. Half of what you have is what I need for my Titan and Hunter, as well as boots and a chest piece. Any type of exchange for one material or currency for another would be helpful.

Indeed Poke! Bungie needs to take people's advice. I wouldn't imagine we are the only ones who feel this way and I'm sure plenty of those people say this to bungie on their Twitter and such. They just aren't getting it.

We are aware of the issues players have encountered when playing through the Crota's End Raid and are actively investigating. A list of the most commonly known issues can be found below:

·         The sword that drops from the Swordbearer during the Crota fight can sometimes disappear.

·         Crota can get up early and kill the sword-carrier unexpectedly.

Nice find Rick. One of the first teams I beat hard mode with did it in two swords before a lot of teams, and our swordbearer didn't use any fancy swings, just RT.

Leme just find the post here...

This is by far the best run I had on Crota hard mode. And if you look closely, this was before we knew you could hide from the boomers while hitting crota but we had someone jumping around drawing the attention of and dodging the right tower boomers for every sword carry.

Thanks again for having me along for the ride last night.  Sorry about the mic problems.

Ended up getting a pretty good loot haul out of it.
I now have my first complete set of Raid armor (excluding class armor) after receiving the Dogged Gage and Relentless Harness last night.

I also received some new primary weapons to mess around with.  (Fang of Ir Yut and Oversoul Edict)

And on top of that I received the Truth too.

Now I just have to decide which one to level up first.

Might be a tad late getting on. But I will be on tonight.

Thanks again for jumping in tonight guys.

Now for the noob question.

Can you only get rewards once from running a raid no matter what the difficulty?

Or can you run it once on Normal, and receive the drops, then run it again on hard and receive the drops again?
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End
Post by: ATLNinjalo on March 23, 2015, 04:49:25 PM
If you run on hard you get the normal drops too. so if youve ran it on hard, don't bother on normal. There is some dispute though as some seem to get fewer drops running it on hard first than they would running normal and then hard.
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End
Post by: Trysten on March 23, 2015, 05:25:13 PM
Oh there's no dispute. There's no such thing as a Special or Heavy raid weapon dropping for anyone I have ever played hard mode with. Normal mode on the other hand? I get at least one black hammer a week because of normal mode.
No more normal mode for me though. Finally got my swordbreaker back this week! I now have every raid weapon from both raids. And I only need The Last Word for my exotics, excluding PS exclusives.

After much frustration, I ended up getting into a group with RaidHelp101 on Twitch and finally killed Crota after I would say 20+ attempts. I got Fang of lr Yut, a ship, and Graverobber sparrow so it was worth it.

EDIT: I realized a few hours later that I had a Red Death at the Postmaster.  So, I must of had that drop during the Crota fight as well.  However, I already have a Red Death that I bought from Xur a few weeks ago.  So, I'll probably dismantle this extra one.

Exactly this (just replace my name with Arby). Thanks a lot guys! I always figured Flawless would be the one achievement I couldn't get due to me not using a mic so I was very excited to see it pop.

@Seth: You could always holdout for a sale on the season pass. That seems to be the only DLC that ever gets a sale on the One. I wouldn't say Dark Below is worth $20, but the Raid is a lot of fun.

Ya that's my dilemma. I don't care about the new gear and grind (hate how gear and content distribution is handled in this game). I just want to raid with my friends. Just the raids alone aren't worth the cost of a season pass though. Really wish Destiny packed more punch into the variety of their content and experiences. So is VoG out of the flawless equation by now? Figure with all these high levels a lvl 28 raid doesn't seem too far off. Gorgon maze and Atheon inconsistency seem to be the most difficult parts.

Actually the platforming is what has messed more ppl up than Atheon's litany of glitches.  That and the randomness with the Stasis bubble that drops with the Templar's shield.  There is actually WAY Less randomness on CE on Normal.

If you're going for the Xbox One version I'm in. My Hunter still needs the chest. Just be warned it's a 30 so I may need some carrying.

After the reset would anyone be interested in a Hard mode run? I want another shot at a Crux and my only missing gun.

Sorry none of the armor dropped for you. I've been trying to get the armor on my Titan for a long time and it won't drop either. Glad you had fun though! (I apologize for being a noob at running the lamps.)

EDIT: I got my missing boots for the Titan! I think it was 10-15 bridge completions before they dropped. Now to figure out how to get my Hunter across the bridge solo for that armor.

To be honest, it doesn't bother me. I've gotten use to Destiny's random drop system and I just try to be grateful for the things that do drop versus getting frustrated about the things that didn't.

I did get Hunger of Crota last night. Didn't have one of those last night, so that will come in handy.
And I was able to complete the first portion of the raid alive. So that's another bonus for the night.

Great to hear you had fun! The real fun comes with running the sword :)

Glad to be heard.  Last nights trial run with the new head set went pretty good.  Still have to mess with the settings a bit.  That and get use to all the wires required for it.

Helmet, chest piece, cloak, Raid ship (First one I've received) and The Hunger of Crota.

Overall, a really good night.

I saw this on Reddit, we must do this

"Enter Seal Team 6 mode: load up Crota's End on normal difficulty and get to work. The only requirement is this: NO MAN LEFT BEHIND. Your entire fireteam must get from the beginning of the abyss to the end, and if anyone dies, you must revive him before you move on. Also, when you're at the center plate, no jumping on rocks. Everyone must stand back to back to back to back to back to back on the center plate, fighting off hordes of thrall and Knights while trying to take out the ogre(s) simultaneously.

Run the Abyss like this, and watch it reinvigorate your soul. You'll catch yourself giggling like a schoolboy as your whole team waits at weight x10 to revive your scrublord teammate who fell in a pit or got blown up by a lamp detonation. For even more good times, carry this mentality all the way through the raid. Can't do bridge unless everyone is across. Can't get the special thrallway chest unless everyone is alive. Can't down Ir Yut unless 5 guardians are at your side. Carry this into VoG as well, see what challenges you can come up with!

Seal Team 6 mode: the only way your whole fireteam can truly become legend.

P.S. For added laughs, run the whole abyss without activating a lamp.

When you bring up your guardian click "Raid" and it says how many completions that class has done now. Add up the total of all three. The attempt stat wasn't listed as a stat, it was the link you had to click to see the completion number and other stats. It's gone now, but it was a bar with a number underneath. There was a row of bars like that for each activity.

This past weekend I was helping Jake run the raid. We had a hard time at Crota because he was only a 31 and couldn't down Crota by himself, so I ended up having to shoot a rocket  as swordbearer. Still had problems so I invited Trysten to help. First try was super laggy and we wiped. We got him on the second try and Jake gets the -blam!-ing Blackhammer. He could not stop laughing for the rest of the night.

A friend and I will be attempted Crota's raid tonight anywhere between 9-10pm EST on Xbox One. There's 4 spots to fill if anyone's feeling like some good old Destiny brawling.

My gamertag is the same if anyone feels like messaging/adding me this evening: Deadly Chikadee

Anyone up for doing crota tonight? Haven't done it and quite like the look of word of crota hand cannon.
does it drop on normal?

also, if I do the normal raid, can you do the hard and still get rewards?
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End

I believe that the primary weapons only drop on Hard.

Yep, you can collect drops on normal and hard for the week.

If I'm not in PoE tonight I would be up for a run.

Word of Crota only drops from defeating Crota on Hard.

So happy with the run from last night. It took about 25 runs, but I finally got Hunger of Crota. Immediately went into Iron Banner with it and got a quadruple kill.

Cheers for the info!

Well I'm up for doing some PvE tonight, there's a possibility of a PoE run but I'm more open to the raid just so I have the option to do hard after and get WoC.

I'm ready from now onwards so send me an invite/message and we can organise something. I'm GMT so don't wanna be too late but, say till 10pm Eastern would be my limit!

I think it was someone xhalolx knows IRL, if you remember him (Brian) from the halo SIP days.

I really don't know, it took more than 2 hours or something, up till 4 in the morning gettin irate! I apologise if I -blam-ed anyone off!
It was worth it, thanks to those who got me hunger of crota, timebreaker sparrow and the titan vog helmet. First time I've properly, definitely up for making it a regular thing, only problem is the late nights and getting a fireteam assembled :/

With any luck I'll log on around 10 tonight. I may try running the first part solo with my hunter. I know I can get through it on normal. I'm guessing I can do it on hard using the same stratagie.

The ogre is upgraded to a major so it takes quite a bit more damage to kill him. If your Hunter is a 34 it would help a lot.

I'm still after the Crux so I'd be interested as well.

33.something. I have 3 items at 42 light I can equip. (That's including an exotic piece.)
Gesr wise I was going to carry the MIDA, Black Hammer and Hunger of Crota to get up there.
I forget though, is it a single Oger or 2 that appear on Hard mode.
Title: Re: Raid Discussion and Team Set Up - Crota's End
Post by: Stig Assassin on June 29, 2015, 09:36:31 PM
Every time I've done it solo it's only one. I think having more players is what adds the second ogre, and killing thrall. Black Hammer and Hunger sounds like a great combo for killing the ogre.

No problem, I had fun!

My haul from Crota last night:  Abyss Defiant, Red Death, Word of Crota, Willbreaker's Greaves (Titan Boots) and countless Radiant Sha/nergies.  Afterwards for -blam!-s and giggles I hopped into a 28 POE and got a Helm of Inmost Light.  It was not a bad night for Destiny booty!!  (Of course staying up late with you fools caused me to lose out on any other type of booty, but whaddyagonnado!!)
