MW3 Spec Ops Achievement Guide
« on: November 21, 2011, 10:30:24 AM »

Spec Ops achievement list:

Click to jump to specific achievements:
50/50 | Birdie | Serrated Edge | Arms Dealer | Danger Zone | Defense Spending | Get Rich or Die Trying | I live | Survivor | Unstoppable | No Assistance Required | Brag Rags | Tactician | Overachiever

50/50 - 20 G
Complete a Special Ops Mission Mode game with the same number of kills as your partner.

This achievement is easiest to unlock on the first Spec Op mission, Stay Sharp.  When you go in with a partner there is an even number of targets available for each of you to share, and to make it easier, they don't shoot back.  Simply go through the course and make sure that you're each keeping track of each others kill total.  To make it even easier, right on your screen it tells you how many kills you have.  You will finish with 17 kills each, so if for some reason you're not actually communicating with your teammate and you get to 17, let your partner finish out the course.

Birdie - 20 G
Kill 2 enemy helicopters without getting hit in a Special Ops Survival game.

There are various methods that you can use to unlock this achievement, but I will list the way that I found easiest.  This should definitely be done on one of the easier difficulty maps, and in this example, Resistance.  If you buy a predator missile from the air support armory before the start of wave 6 (when the helicopters arrive) it will make this easier.  Ultimately you should take cover in a building or tunnel, and I've found that the one right by the weapon armory works great.  Use your predator missile to take out the first chopper while you're under the cover of the tunnel, then use your gun to take out the next.  You don't have to step out of the tunnel too far to take aim and fire.  When you hear the chain gun warming up to fire, step back under cover until it stops shooting, then step back out fire some more.  Continue this until the chopper goes down.

I used the SMG that the enemies dropped in the previous waves, but you can use whatever weapon you choose.  By this point in the game the only thing I purchased was the Predator Missile, but if you want to buy other items feel free to do so.  Just make sure you don't get hit by the chopper gun fire and you'll have no problem with this.

This can be done solo or with a partner, and I believe your partner can even shoot at the choppers as well, as long as you shoot the final bullet that takes down both birds.

Serrated Edge - 15 G
Finish a Juggernaut with a knife in Special Ops.

This achievement can be completed in either Mission or Survival mode and is easiest with a partner if you try in Survival.  If you're doing this in Survival, you might want to have your partner grab a riot shield to absorb gun fire and to distract the juggernaut while the other person goes in for the knife kill.  If you don't want to waste money on the riot shield just shoot at him a good bit until you think a couple of knife swipes will do the trick.

If you're going for it in Mission mode the first juggernaut we run into is in the fifth mission, Toxic Paradise.  After you've collected the first 4 samples, a juggernaut and another one or two enemies will be coming towards you down an alley.  take out the easier enemy and retreat back through the area in which you just came.  shoot a bit at the juggernaut while luring him back to an area where you have enough room to move.  It's pretty simple in that all you need to do is stun him with a flash bang and then circle around him knifing.  they move too slow to really keep up with you.  Attempt this on the easiest difficulty and it should be no problem.

Arms Dealer - 20 G
Buy all items from the Survival Weapon Armory.

This achievement is cumulative over your entire Spec Ops Survival career.  That means this does not have to be done all in one game and includes games you play solo or multiplayer.   To unlock this achievement you will have to reach level 50 in Spec Ops since that is when you will unlock the Type 95 (the final weapon in the Survival Weapon Armory).

It might be a good idea to make a list of the weapons that you've purchased as well as noting which attachments you have purchased.  Keep in mind that you do not need to buy every attachment for each individual weapon.  Once you buy an attachment for one weapon, it counts towards all other weapons that use that same attachment (for example, Grip).  Note that the M4, AK-47, and SCAR-L each have a different type of grenade launcher so you will need to purchase the grenade launcher for each of those weapons.

Make sure you buy every gun on the list, including the gun that you began with and you should have no problem with this achievement, other than the time it takes to complete.

Danger Zone - 20 G
Buy all items from the Survival Air Support Armory.

Similar to Arms Dealer, you will need to purchase every air support option in the Survival Air Support Armory at some point over your Spec Ops Survival career.  This includes each of the air drop perks.  You will need to reach Level 50 for this achievement as well since sleight of hand unlocks at that level.

Defense Spending - 20 G
Buy all items from the Survival Equipment Armory.

This is just like Arms Dealer and Danger Zone.  Purchase every item from the Survival Equipment Armory.  To unlock this achievement you will need to reach level 37 in Spec Ops when you will unlock the Riot Shield.  Make sure that you purchase the self revive perk even though you start the game with it.  If you are doing this solo and have not yet been downed you can simply cook a grenade to down yourself and purchase it again.

Get Rich or Die Trying - 25 G
Have $50,000 current balance in a Special Ops Survival game.

This achievement can be earned Solo or with a Partner, but it is arguably much easier with a partner.  If you are going at this solo you should go for this on one of the easier maps.  In the earlier waves pay attention in the bottom left hand corner of the screen which streaks you are going for that will net you more points.  In the later rounds it will be more about surviving so don't focus so much on those streak rewards that you compromise your progress.  In the first few waves you can get a way with just knifing the enemies allowing their weapons and ammo to stockpile a bit more.  Use only enemy weapons and restock on their dropped ammo.  Purchase minimal supplies if you desperately need it, but if you play conservative this is manageable.

Our recommendation is to do this with a partner, but still use the same tactic.  Spend money sparingly (ammo and maybe an extra item like a sentry or claymores) and only use the weapons dropped by the enemies.  If you play conservative you should have enough money by about wave 15 between the two of you.  At this point, get your partner to go to one of the armories and share their money with you by opening the armory menu and pressing X to share $500 at a time.  They will have to do this repetitively and it will take more time than you are allotted between waves so make sure you cover your partner.  Just be smart about your situation and it should be no problem.  If your partner has not gotten the achievement you can give all of the money back to them through the same method.

Just like the solo method, do this on one of the easier maps.

I Live - 10 G
Survive 1 wave in a Special Ops Survival game.

Take out the few enemies in the first wave and this will be no problem.  I'm sure you already have this if you're even reading this guide.

Survivor - 20 G
Reach Wave 10 in each mission of Special Ops Survival mode.

Similar to Get Rich or Die Trying this is much more manageable with a partner than if you were going at it alone.  If you are going for the next Achievement, Unstoppable, you will get this one by default.

Unstoppable - 40 G
Reach Wave 15 in each mission of Special Ops Survival mode.

This can be done solo or with a partner, but we recommend going in with a partner.  If you do decide to attempt this solo you can read some Tips and Tricks in our Delta Squad board.  As we learn new tactics we will update that thread.

The main thing to say here is that you should be mindful of which waves you are one and which enemies to expect so you can better prepare.  We recommend finding a place on the map that you can defend with minimal entry points, and make sure you're stocked up on supplies.  If your partner has a higher rank and you want a specific weapon, they can purchase it for you then if they pick up a dropped weapon on the map in it's place it will allow you to pick it up once theirs is dropped.  They can also purchase different perks care packages and you can pick up the perk when it's dropped in.  Sleight of Hand really comes in handy if you have an LMG, but note that going and just refilling the ammo will automatically reload any weapon for you.

No Assistance Required - 20 G
Complete a Special Ops Mission Mode game on Hardened or Veteran with no player getting downed.

If you play smart enough this can be accomplished on a number or missions.  Firewall and Hostage Taken are a couple of commonly recommended Ops, but there is also an in game glitch that will allow you to get it on Stay Sharp very easily regardless of how long it takes you to complete with your partner.

You can accomplish this on any of the other missions if you play smart, cover each other, and communicate.

Brag Rags - 10 G
Earn 1 star in Special Ops Mission Mode.

Go into Stay Sharp and run the course.  This is a simple achievement to unlock.

Tactician - 20 G
Earn 1 star in each mission of Special Ops Mission Mode.

This one is a bit more complicated, but as you progress through you will unlock this.  A partner is a valuable asset when going for this achievement.  If you're looking for a partner, give Metal 4-8 a shout in our team thread.

Overachiever - 40 G
Earn 48 stars in Special Ops Mission Mode.

This is not an easy achievement to unlock.  A couple of the missions will require a partner, but you can complete most of the missions solo if you choose.  We do recommend going in with a partner, similar to the Tactician achievement.

While we are working on a mission specific guide, using our team's experience and knowledge and letting us help you can really help out with this achievement.

While we may modify this to include all MW3 achievements, at the moment this will serve as our Spec Op specific achievement guide.  If you have any questions feel free to utilize the resources in each of the team threads:
