Gameplay Reveal of Destiny
« on: June 11, 2013, 03:52:47 PM »

From the studio that brought us Halo, Bungie has once again gone for an out of this world adventure. Destiny was revealed not that long ago and we finally have our first look at gameplay.

First, we have the official gamepley reveal trailer by Bungie. It’s more trailer than gameplay, but this is an introduction.

The main event is the full reveal of gameplay during the Sony press conference. No more teasers and “Soon” comments. Just pure gameplay to show off what to expect.

The jumping in of additional fire teams was pretty sweet.

Here's an interesting article about some details that might have been missed during the gameplay reveal. One thing they mention is the name of the sniper rifle shown. It's called, "Duct Tape Fixes Everything."

This looks like what Defiance could have been. Don't get me wrong Defiance is a fun and enjoyable game, but the graphics and finish it don't touch this though.

I'm kind of underwhelmed with Destiny so far to be honest. It seems a lot like Borderlands so far, and it's just not doing it for me. Tom Clancy's The Division seems to be a very similar type of game, but judging solely based off of what was shown at E3, The Division has captured my interest a lot more than Destiny has.

Before seeing anything at E3, I was hoping that this game would almost be treated like Chrome Hounds, where you battle for positioning on a global map, alongside everyone else on Xbox Live. This COULD still be the case I suppose, but again all that was shown was that the gameplay is very borderlands like.

What I AM still interested in though, is the story of this game. Between what happened to Earth, finding out what the traveler is, and learning about how all of these different races came to inhabit Earth, I do find myself begging for more scraps of information on this story. So, I'm very interested in the story, I'm sort of.... meh on the gameplay shown so far, and I am curious as to how the gameplay ties in on a global scale.

So, it looks ok so far. Hopefully July 7th of this year (Bungie Day) will shed some more light on this curious game!

Totally agree. Although I'm a Borderlands fan, I don't like how they (Gearbox) make you grind all over the huge world to get unnecessary collectibles that in no way help you with your quest. Hopefully, this won't be the case with Destiny. I, too, have high hopes for the story and am most excited for this game. The game play looks very smooth and I look forward to playing.

IGN added the video to their site now. Here it is, and I suggest you at least watch the beginning. It's the same level, but they show the scale of the game at the beginning.

That gameplay reminds me of Borderlands crossed with Fallout. Two of my favourite games as inspiration, made by one of my top developers? I'm going to have to grab this.

I really hope those extra fireteams were humans and not AI. It would be amazing to have more than 4 player co-op on it. I'm sure I hears somewhere they wanted it to be a "ten year game" too. I hope that stays true too.

I am about 100% sure that there will be many, many players at once in Destiny. Maybe even hundreds at a time. It is an MMO after all.

Ya I was going to say... I thought this was going to be a large MMOFPS...Not to say I'm not impressed, just my expectations were a little different going into the gameplay reveal. Maybe it's just adopting MMO mechanics but remaining a co-op game. Either that or there will be areas you enter where it will be treated as a strict co-op experience (dungeons/main quest) and the rest of the areas are open with real time players. The way the demo looked, it's a pretty closed off MMO experience..Can anyone elaborate more on how the game will interact with the thousands of other players?

@Poke
I don't know why but that footage really bothered me. I mean, I understand having to script something...but when you have to use the same script between mutliple people, it loses its touch fast. I knew everything he was going to say before he said it, and it bothered me. We already saw all of the stuff. "Oooohh, thunderlord." YA WE KNOW! Could have at least given a more in depth walkthrough of the footage.

*grumpy pants off*
Well great, now I'm naked.
