Pokémon Discussion Thread
« on: October 15, 2013, 06:15:25 PM »

With the release of Pokémon X and Y it's time we have a discussion thread for the series again. So don't be a slowpoke, just jump right in to talk about any and all games in the franchise.

Friend Codes

If you want your friend code added then post in this thread or PM me with your code and what game it is for. For X and Y this appears to only use the 3DS friend code for the system. On past games you can find your friend code by accessing the Pal Pad in your key items bag. If you posted in the old thread on B.net I should have no trouble getting the codes from there if you need me to.

3DS

Slummyzeru - 3496-9856-8668

Gladiator - 4441-9550-7564

Doppelganger - 1048-9200-8976

Stig/Pokenut - 5370-0608-6566

Resources

In here will be links to helpful websites and other resources.

I'll work on expanding this post with more information depending on what people would want to see. Say what you think should be here to help out!

Note: The Pokémon series is known to have a passionate fan-base with equally passionate haters of the franchise. On SIP, the rules are clear that flaming is not allowed. You have the right to state your opinion, but say it in a respectful way or staff may get involved if they see things get out of hand.

Never actually owned a Pokémon game. I've played them though and had some fun.

Very funny, BREQ. ;)  I know I'm going to get a hard time for this, but it's worth it to get the old topic back for anyone interested.

OT: X and Y have been out for two days and have sold over 4 million copies making it the fastest selling 3DS game so far. That's not a big surprise since 1/4 or more would buy both versions boosting the total a bit.

Don't let anyone get you down for what you like Poke. There will always be haters for any game. I actually used to play it all the time on the GBC and GBA. It's just a different style of a JRPG, and portable nonetheless.

When I've got a bit more cash I think I'll buy a 3DS and Pokemon Y. Haven't gotten really into a Pokemon game since Silver :P Still remember as a kid going up to London with my Pokemon red and going to a Nintendo event just to get mew ;D One of the happiest moments of my childhood lol

Just a shame I can't trade up my Pokemon from Red :( Gonna miss playing a Pokemon game without my lvl 100 Blastoise and Alakazam. All hand raised, no rare candies!

Oh and just a heads up Poke ;)

If you're going to get a 3DS I would highly suggest an XL. The original has a short battery life. Now that I'm using the internet on mine the charge lasts about a day. They fixed that with the XL version.

Just a shame I can't trade up my Pokemon from Red :( Gonna miss playing a Pokemon game without my lvl 100 Blastoise and Alakazam. All hand raised, no rare candies!

It's too bad they can't be moved through the games, but it's understandable why. Since the handheld systems couldn't use internet and the GBA and GBC were unable to connect to each other it was impossible to move anything. The only good thing is everything from GBA up is able to transfer. Now that Pokemon Bank has been added with the cloud I doubt any game will ever leave Pokemon behind.

Thanks, I just read an article on that tonight. Guess where my save is. ::)

lvl 100 Blastoise and Alakazam. All hand raised, no rare candies!

I was always about Charizard and Alakazam as well as the other fire starter pkmn all the way up to Pokemon Diamond. Mainly because the fire starters have higher Attack damage. The water ones have Defense. And the Grass have Speed I believe?

Forgot I used to own a black DS Lite, until it broke at the hinge.....
So I haven't played any of the newer games after Diamond and Pearl. Never even got to try out Platinum.

I have been reliving my childhood with all of the GBA and older games on my Vita lately when I am on the go, in the mood for it, or just have nothing better to do.
I am currently in the middle of Emerald. Never got around to buying it back in the day, got it from an old friend a few months back and then got it digital for my Vita. I played the heck out of Sapphire and Ruby though.

Yea, I'm a bit behind on the Pokemon series. Will probably go for a 2DS for the new games, though. The 3D doesn't really appeal to me. Not sure if it's because I wear glasses or not, but it just makes my eyes hurt. lol. Guess I've got some reading to do if I want to have any useful knowledge on the newbies before I actually get the games.

@Zaffy: The 3D takes some time to adjust to. I had headaches and bloodshot eyes after an hour when I first got the system. Now it's no problem at all. Still, 3D isn't a major improvement for the games. Half the time the new Pokemon games don't even use the 3D function. Even when I turned it on I could barely notice a difference.

Mild spoiler information for starters. No story info mentioned.

@Slummy: I'll have to figure out how the friends work in this game and post back here. Either way, I'll add the 3DS code to the OP when I get a chance.

You don't necessarily have to use the 3D function do you? It can be turned down, or even off. Correct me if I'm wrong.
