SIPWU 8.15.14 - Gamescom Edition
« on: August 16, 2014, 12:13:16 AM »

This week’s update is big. If you’re reading this on the forum, you might just have made it past the first challenge of loading. If you’re on the blog, you won’t be having that problem, but you will have to flip pages. This is all thanks to that wonderful gaming conference known as Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. We’re recapping the biggest points from the event in this update that is sure to break your Youtube if you keep refreshing, and I speak from experience.

For easy reference, the first page of the update covers the Microsoft Xbox Conference. The second page covers the Sony PlayStation Conference. The third page covers games covered in neither of the two conferences, the Deals of the Week, and the SIP News.

Bungie / 343 / Halo

343 Industries revealed new details about the Halo 5: Guardians Beta.  The beta will start on December 29th, 2014 and end January 18th, 2015.  The beta will feature 4 vs.4 arena-style showdowns and all players in a match start with the same weapon loadout.  The beta will also run at 60 frames per second, include dedicated servers, and will have unlockables you can take from the beta to the full game in Fall 2015.  A First Look trailer has been released for your viewing pleasure!

343 Industries also revealed that Sanctuary would be returning as a remastered map in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.  343 showed off a quick 2-minute match between Halo pros on the remastered map.

Bungie and Activision released a new trailer showing off Destiny’s competitive multiplayer modes.  The trailer shows off the different modes including some of the Iron Banner gear you could win.  The new modes include Skirmish, Control, Salvage, Rumble, Combined Arms, Clash, and Iron Banner.

Activision also announced that the first Destiny expansion pack, The Dark Below, will be available to all players (Xbox and Playstation) in December 2014.  Playstation gamers will get exclusive content in the pack that will remain exclusive until Fall 2015.

The official Destiny Mars gameplay trailer was also released recently and features the planet of Mars and it’s invader, the Cabal.

Other Gaming News

To start things off with the Xbox conference, you can check out the whole conference below to get the full details.

The only thing you should expect to see in that conference is the games, a lot which you can come to expect but with a lot more detail. There were several Indie games featured part of ID@Xbox. You can watch a montage of the trailers for these indie games in this compilation below.

For the highlights of the show, you can watch the trailers below.

For all of you Football/soccer fans, FiFA 15′s got a new gameplay trailer to showcase it’s newer tech. This trailer is focused on the goalkeepers of the game and the improvements made to them, which will surely affect a large part of the game.

Ultimate Team Legends, which was revealed at Gamescom last year as an Xbox exclusive for FiFA 14 is staying that way with FiFA 15. Exclusive to the Xbox One, you can customize your team with even more players who’ve done more than enough to make a name for themselves. And European gamers can also pre-order a FiFA 15 Xbox One bundle which will become available on September 25th.

It’s been a long time since Quantum Break was revealed to us, but now we finally get to see our first gameplay from Remedy’s new game. With eight-and-a-half minutes of footage, Quantum Break’s gameplay reveal surely doesn’t disappoint. After a time travel experiment gone terribly wrong, Jack Joyce must stop time from breaking down with newly acquired powers to manipulate time.

More Quantum Break news is to be expected soon.

Activision and Sledgehammer Games revealed the new Advanced Warfare multiplayer at Gamescom this week.  The multiplayer trailer is below.

Activision also revealed the special “Day Zero Edition” of the game.  If you get the “Day Zero Edition” of Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, you will get access to the game a day early on Monday, November 3rd, 2014 before it’s release on Tuesday.  You will also get the Advanced Arsenal pack, 2 custom weapons, and Double XP on Day Zero (Monday).  This edition is only available at certain participating retailers.

Microsoft also revealed a new custom Xbox One console to go with Call of Duty Advanced Warfare.  The special bundle will include a custom-themed Xbox One console, controller, and sound effects, full-game download of COD Advanced Warfare Day Zero Edition, and exclusive in-game items.  This special bundle will be available on November 3rd, 2014, the day before the game is officially released, and will cost $499.99.

We have two bits of news about Lara Croft from Gamescom. First, we have a gameplay trailer for Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, the sequel to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which many of you may be acquainted with from Games With Gold. This trailer features the new 4-player co-op all throughout whilst showcasing the new Egyptian environment.

Also, Rise of the Tomb Raider, the sequel to last year’s Tomb Raider, has been confirmed as a timed exclusive for Xbox. The game will launch during the Holidays of 2015. While it isn’t clear how long it will be exclusive, PlayStation gamers won’t be able to play Rise of the Tomb Raider for a long time.

Cooperative Competitive is getting a big push with all these new games featuring 4v1 gameplay, including Evolve, an Xbox One exclusive. This commentary video will give you all you need to know about the new Distillery map for now as well as some gameplay features.

Fable Legends was the first game revealed to show us the 4v1 style of gameplay. This trailer from Gamescom now shows us a whole new four heroes that you can play as, bringing the grand total of playable heroes to eight, or twelve if that clip from the end wasn’t a joke.

From the chattering halls to the busy streets to the quiet cathedrals to the vast skyline, the Assassins will visit all in attempts to restore order in Paris during the French revolution.

Following the teaser reveal last week of the current-gen title Ubisoft showed two gameplay trailers during Gamescom. The first showcases the naval warfare and the changes that have been done since Black Flag was released. The second shows Shay infiltrating an enemy camp to kill the leader and burn their flag. This shows the new feature of Assassin’s hunting you during missions as well as the new weapons available to shay for the first time in the series.

A new developer video from Turn 10 showcases what Forza Horizon 2′s Online multiplayer will be about from what you can do to what will constantly being going on around you. Watch the video to get to know more about what the game will be like.

And some extras goodies for you people wanting to play Forza right now, Forza Motorsport 5 has a new Infiniti Car Pack available now from the Xbox Games Store. And did we mention it’s free!

At E3 we got a guide to Sunset City from one of your average citizens. This time, we have somebody from a different point of view. Learn about Sunset City in it’s post-apocalyptic state, about how it started, and what came after.

Screamride was announced as a new Xbox IP based on Rollercoaster Tycoon games from the past. The biggest difference with this game is that there are way more explosions then you’d expect for a rollercoaster game. Now, your amusement park designs are really worth screaming for.

First off, you can watch the entire PlayStation Conference from Gamescom below so you can get all of the details straight from the source.

This year, Sony pretty much focused only on the games. There was mention of PlayStation Plus services, such as PlayStation Now’s Beta launching in the UK in the coming months with the rest of Europe to follow as well as PlayStation TV having a price tag of 99 Euros, but the games were still the main focus. Indie games had there fair share of the spotlight. Highlights from the conference are featured below.

The first gameplay reveal of Bloodborne, a PlayStation exclusive title was revealed at Gamescom. In Bloodborne, you fight off monsters created by an illness as you try to investigate the cause.

The platformer where you can create things to share with the community received a new trailer, appropriately titled “Create and Share.” This LittleBigPlanet 3 trailer should be pretty self explanatory.

While no news for the new standalone inFAMOUS title was revealed, we got another trailer for First Light which acts as a backstory for Abigail “Fetch” Walker in Second Son.

During the Industrial Revolution, technology was moving forward more rapidly. But with Nikola Tesla’s help it moved even faster with new electric weaponry. This new trailer details how Tesla’s helping shape the events of the game in The Order.

A new trailer for Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor gives us a brief glimpse into the story of the game. The trailer doesn’t feature any gameplay but does brace us for the game coming out next month. The game will have content exclusive to PlayStation 4 players.

It’s time to play tourist. This next trailer takes you to the far off land of Kyrat, a nation in the Himalayas that is deadlier than it may seem. I’ll let your tourguide explain the rest.

A special pre-order bonus was announced for PlayStation 4 players. Pre-ordering gives you 10 Keys to Kyrat which allow you to give 10 of your friends an exclusive 2 hour trial of the game for you to play in co-op, allowing some of your friends who don’t have the game to see what all the buzz is about.

So here’s an interesting little situation from Gamescom. On the first day Sony revealed a new game called P.T. which was available that day to try on the PS4. We later learned that stood for “Playable Teaser” after the official reveal of Silent Hills was done. Nothing is really known other than Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro will be working together on the project. Check out the teaser below.

The long delayed racer had a few details come out from the conference. Once you have a club everyone will be able to contribute to earning rewards. Once it is earned, everyone gets to use the new car. You can see the new trailer below. It will be available October 7th on the PS4.

For those of you with a PS Vita, you may be familiar with this game. Tearaway: Unfolded brings the Vita paper world to the big screen designed to use the DualShock 4 controller as best as possible. From using the standard sticks and buttons, to creating several uses for the touch screen, and even using that light on then end of the controller to shine your way through areas. The new PS4 version comes with many new features as well as changes in the storytelling toinclude the new features.

Until Dawn was announced at Gamescom for the PS4. The game announced two years back for the PlayStation Move has been redone for the PS4 to attract a larger crowd. The game revolves around eigt friends who have an annual get together in a remote area in the mountains. As you can tell, the situation sets itself up for a horro story where the friends must survive until dawn.

If you’ve been following the weekly “You’ve Been Chosen” teasers from Bioware then by now you probably know it was revealed during Gamescom. If not, the official title is called Shadow Realms and it’s a PC exclusive game. It’s another 4v1 that combines modern and fantasy worlds in a persistent and changing universe. Here is your first look at the game.

EA debuted a new multiplayer mode for Battlefield Hardline.  Hotwire mode is a high-speed chase mode where players can shoot at other players by shooting out of car windows.  An eSports mode was also talked about called Rescue.  Rescue is a 5v5 mode where players have 1 life per round and must rescue a hostage. On the single player front, Visceral meant to greatly improve the campaign aspect of Battlefield. The new style of campaign is based on crime drama TV shows rather to deliver an experience that is more of a thrill ride than previous campaigns. To show us a small glimpse of what it will consist of, a 12 minute story trailer with brief commentary was created, featuring stealth, firefights, planning and the story style to expect.

We got a new Alien: Isolation CGI trailer. While there isn’t any gameplay in the trailer, it does show us what we can come to expect of what the game will be like when you have to survive using intuition rather than armaments. Here’s the trailer.

The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is an extremely in-depth game with lots of content. This in-depth developer diary shows us a lot of what makes this world unique and exciting; from our hero to the vast open-world and the seemingly mundane to the stuff of legends.

A Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel trailer was released this week and it is pretty self explanatory.

The beloved fighting franchise’s newest game features a whole lotta new, but this new trailer is focused on an older character. This is the official Kano trailer which highlights Kano and his three highly lethal variations of Cutthroat, Cybernetic, and Commando.

It looks like we have reports of this SIPWU crashing browsers. If you've dived straight into the comments, I recommend reading this using only 1 tab open.

And for you artists and other creative minds, we're still looking for your work to be featured in the weekly SIPWU's. If you've got anything you want to share, send it along with a description of it in a PM to a member of the Communique (featured in the credits at the end of the SIPWU).

Great update guys! Sanctuary/Shrine looks great in that preview. Also, the Sun looks awfully close to Mars in that Destiny trailer...
