Resident Evil 7’s free Not a Hero DLC has been delayed. The DLC was originally scheduled for a Spring 2017 release, but due to not meeting expectations Capcom has decided the best course of action is to delay the DLC until it’s up to the standard fans expect.

Speaking in a video to fans, Resident Evil 7 director Masachika Kawata and producer Koshi Nakanishi both explained the situation as so:

Quote
“We were working very hard to get the DLC ready in time for the Spring release, and we got close to completing the game content,” says Kawata. “Our aim is for this content is to match the high quality of the main game, so we need more development time in order to achieve that goal.”

“However, in light of the incredible reception to the release of Resident Evil 7, we concluded that this DLC was not good enough to meet those high expectations,” Nakanishi adds. “Rest assured we'll use this time to create something our fans love.”

Nakanishi notes the Not a Hero DLC will indeed still be free upon its release, whenever that may be.

Quote
Rounding out the video is executive producer Jun Takeuchi, who mirrors the words of both Nakanishi and Kawata while also announcing that another new DLC is in development for Capcom’s scare-a-thon.

“We are also working on a further piece of DLC at the moment,” says Takeuchi, “and we wish to deliver both of these to you up to the standard you expect from Resident Evil 7. I hope you can understand our decision to keep you waiting and ask for your continued support of Resident Evil 7.”

December Brings Two DLC Releases and a Gold Edition to Resident Evil 7

Remember the free "Not a Hero" DLC that was announced for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard? For those that forgot it was announced over six months ago and was later delayed. The release date for "Not a Hero" has finally been announced... for December. It will also coincide with the launch of a Gold Edition that will include all of Resident Evil 7's downloadable content. Lastly, Capcom has briefly discussed the next DLC, entitled "End of Zoe," which is to launch on the same date.

Quote
Capcom calls "End of Zoe" a "shocking" chapter in the events of Resident Evil 7. Players will get to see what happens to Zoe, encountering new enemies along the way in a new swamp location. Included with the season pass and the newly-announced Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition, "End of Zoe" can also be picked up separately for US$14.99 / £11.99 / €14.99.

As we already knew, "Not a Hero" stars Chris Redfield after the events of Resident Evil 7. Capcom promises "a brand new experience playing as Chris to face new threats not met in the main game." The DLC will be a free update for all owners of the game, regardless of whether they own the season pass or Gold Edition.

Quote
As a member of New Umbrella, Chris and team quickly set up a strategy to counter this latest threat. Will Chris once again solve the mystery of this latest outbreak and make it out of the plantation’s dungeons alive?

Capcom has announced the launch of the final two DLC packages will be accompanied by the release of a Gold Edition for the title. The Gold Edition includes the base game and all DLC released. To recap, this includes the "Banned Footage" expansions, "Banned Footage Vol. 1" and "Banned Footage Vol. 2," as well as the upcoming "End of Zoe." Of course, owners of the Gold Edition will also have access to "Not a Hero," just like everyone else.

"Not a Hero," "End of Zoe" and the Gold Edition will launch simultaneously on December 12th for Resident Evil 7. Pricing for the Gold Edition was unannounced at the time of writing.

Resident Evil 7's Not a Hero free DLC may have been delayed from its spring release earlier this year, but at least there's a new gameplay trailer while we wait for it to come out on December 12.

The trailer shows off Chris Redfield as he descends into an abandoned mine that turns out to be quite populated. Naturally, undead enemies, missing keys, and formidable bosses ensue.
