SIPWU 1.27.17
« on: January 27, 2017, 06:27:16 PM »

This week our news seems to be mostly about February. Upcoming patches, a beta, DLC drops and even free games. The Xbox is getting a makeover and a game we’ve been following finally has a release date. Read on for all the details.

Halo

The promised classic helmets pack from the Monitor’s Bounty update now has a release date of February 9th. If you’ve been looking forward to getting some of the old helmets then there you go. In more recent news, a new playlist called “Warlords” is being tested. It started today and runs through the weekend so be sure to check it out.

Destiny

It’s been quite some time since Bungie has delivered a weapon balancing patch. Their latest community update has announced that a new one will be coming around the middle of February. It’s still too early to get details but they did give an over view of the goals for this patch. Those five things are: 1. Promote alternatives and counters to Shotguns, 2. Align potency of Primary Weapons with surgical changes, 3. File down a couple of issues from each class, 4. Fix some issues with a sampler platter of Exotics, and 5. Supporting adjustments to Special Ammunition. We’ll let you know once there’s more to say.

Other Gaming News

The Ringed City is the second and final expansion for Dark Souls III following last year’s Ashes of Ariandel. It launches on March 28th on PS4, Xbox One and Steam. The new DLC will be sold individually ($14.99) or as part of the $24.99 season pass, which also includes the previous expansion. For more details on The Ringed City DLC be sure to check it out in our blog post.

An interesting event will be taking place very soon in Final Fantasy XV as the Moogle Chocobo Carnival has headed into town bringing with it lots of fun activities, colorful displays and more as Altissia is transformed to host the festivities. For more details regarding the Moogle Chocobo Carnival Event check it out in our blog post.

A few more details have been revealed for Resident Evil 7’s two DLC’s/Season Pass. For more information feel free to check it out in our blog post.

Blizzard is unleashing its latest seasonal event today, which honors the Year of the Rooster. The update includes more than 100 new cosmetic items themed to the Chinese lunar new year, and a new brawl that offers a poultry-themed twist on capture the flag. For more details on the event check it out in our blog post.

This week Titanfall 2 received a small patch. Unfortunately, it’s not the expansive update promising a new game mode, two new maps and more, and is rather a small patch to improve stability, fix a few bugs, and provide slight balancing adjustments. To see the list of  patch notes check it out right here.

Bethesda has announced that Prey will be released worldwide on May 5, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you plan to Pre-Order the game you’ll get some useful items for Morgan for when he/she has to fight aliens on board space station Talos I. To see what you’ll get feel free to check it out in our blog post.

Ubisoft announced that the closed beta for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands will run from Feb. 3-6. It will take place on three platforms (Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) — simultaneously, and preloads of game data will begin on Feb. 1. Ubisoft says that the beta will support solo play, as well as up to four players working together cooperatively. Each beta participant will be offered three additional codes to give to their friends. If you want to sign up for the beta go here.

If you enjoyed playing Dead Rising 4 well you can expect a few surprises. To start off players, have the option to play on two new Difficulty Modes. Here’s what you can expect from the two new modes: Enemies do more damage; Frank’s weapons break faster and food restores less health than before. Keep your eyes peeled, watch your back, and don’t forget to scrounge for every weapon, you are going to need them. The new difficulty modes will be available to players on Jan 30. Second, Players will receive Street Fighter Outfits. While in game, just visit your wardrobe and you will find five outfits for your ultimate zombie fighting experience. The outfits will be available in game on Jan 30. Third, For those that have yet to face the horde in Dead Rising 4, you’ll get the chance to try out a 60-minute timed trial experience for Xbox One. You’ll unlock achievements and if you decide to purchase the game your progress will carry over. Lastly, Xbox One and Windows 10 PC players in Germany will be able to purchase and play Dead Rising 4 from the Microsoft Store on January 31.

A new update is in the works for Minecraft on all console (PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox) platforms. While the majority of the patch notes appear to be minor bug fixes, there are 18 more achievements that will be added to the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions of the game. Eleven of those will be in survival mode, with seven being part of the new Tumble mode. No word on what these are yet, but we’ll have the information once it’s available. The update is still in the approval stages so there’s no time frame for when it may drop.

A new system update for the Xbox One has started to roll out to the first wave of Insider program members. This update contains a large number of changes to the guide system for faster use and improvements. One way this is being sped up, is the removal of the Snap feature. If this is something you use regularly, then unfortunately you won’t have it much longer.

Also coming as part of the Windows Insider program is even more changes. Beam will now be the default streaming platform from the Xbox, but you can still use the Twitch app if that’s how you prefer to broadcast. A new parental control feature called Screen Time will be added allowing parents to set limits on child accounts for how long they can play. The Window 10 and Xbox One updates are called the Creators update, with the Xbox One only changes being part of the upcoming Spring update. Once these become available to everyone we’ll have a post to let you know all the details.

The new set of Games with Gold for February were also announced. Xbox One players get Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and Project Cars, while the 360 gets Monkey Island 2: Special Edition and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. For details on all of these you can read the blog post.

I haven't used the snap feature in a long time. I know there were a few achievements in the TrueAchievement app that required you to unlock an achievement while you had the app snapped.

Do games still release with timed challenges?

I believe there are 3 Achievements in the TA app that require snap. There's also a game called Threes that has one as well as a couple other apps.

Forza Horizon 3 has had a new set of 3 or 4 challenges every weekend for the last 3+ months. EA titles usually have one for playing in the EA Access early trials. Other than that, challenges are not that common.
