Just when you think the Hot Seat has spared the members of SIP, it appears when you least expect it. This week’s target is JR1203, a long time zombie slayer and radiation visualizer. To learn more about him, hit the jump!
Who are you and what do you do?
Hello everyone, my name is Justin and I am 25 years old. I am currently working in the field of Nuclear Medicine. Nuc Med. is like computed tomography, but instead of using a contrast dye we inject a dose of ionizing radiation (usually the meta-stable isotope Technetium 99m)! It’s a very low dose however, and Technetium only has a half life of 6 hours. I image bones, livers, gallbladders, thyroids, parathyroids, stomachs, and pleeeeeenty of hearts.
I live in northern Alabama with my girlfriend, though I don’t have too much of a southern drawl.
What’s with your current gamertag?
My current (and only) GT is very simple: It is my first and last initial and my birthday….that’s it! When playing online most people will call me “junior”, but it its actually pronounced “jay are”. I do consider myself an achievement hunter, and will always try to finish the struggle of completing all my backlog.
What are your hobbies?
I LOVE music. Love to listen, love to play, and I collect a little bit too!
I grew up on rock, but have been leaning toward heavier and more proggy stuff today. I play guitar (6,7,8 strings) and drums. As far as collecting music, I have a very nice record collection of my favorite band Between the Buried and Me…I believe it’s close to 80 records for them alone!
I “attempt” to create & recreate things as well: movie/star wars helmets, clay sculptures, drawings, game props, etc. I tend to have a lot going on at once so my projects take awhile.
Where do you hang out online?
I tend to frequent S1P, TrueAchievements, reddit, vinylcollective, the rpf, and a couple of star wars prop/armor communities.
On XBL I’m either dominating on Rocket League (got a late start on the game), trying to finish up COD Black Ops 3 weapon kills, or watching Netflix.
Do your family, friends, or co-workers game with you?
My brother (19) games with me quite frequently. We will play party or racing type games though. My parents did play when I was a wee lad… mom being the one to help me get infinite lives in Mario Bros and my dad helping me in the annoying Earthworm Jim stages. My girlfriend and I are currently playing Life is Strange, but she is more of a handheld gamer.
What was the first Bungie game you played?
I briefly played Halo at a friends house when it came out in 2001. Fast forward to 2004: I get my own Xbox and both Halo 1 and 2 and become addicted.
When did you join SIP?
I joined five years ago just about when it popped up, but was a lurker on the old bungie site for awhile beforehand.
*it really doesn’t seem like five years ago*
How did you find us?
Same as most people I suppose…I was the needy guy wanting Vidmaster help from the best!
If you could be on any team on the site (this includes NMN, Vidmasters, etc) which one would you pick and why?
TEAM DEATHMACHINE 100% 4EVAH!!! I am a sucker for helping people with zombie achievements. I don’t really know why… most runs are usually 1.5-3 hours and you have to carry people a lot, but I really do enjoy it. Each game is different than the last, but my teammates are what make it so fun and enjoyable. *even though sometimes they drink too much or fall asleep jk jk*
Any suggestions for the staff members here at SIP?
*Needs moar dragons and lazers*
Have any Shout-outs?
Shoutout to Adam, Trysten, Leo, Arby, Stig, Breq, Paul, Randy, Marc, Bandit, Josh, Slummy, Mr Serrano, Flip, Seth, Hammy, Reed, Mahdi, Dowders, Snakedoctor, anyone else I forgot (sorry)!
Oh, can’t forget both Simon and Simon! These guys are amazing….seriously.
If you could punch any historical figure (living or dead) in the face, who would it be & why?
Today, right now it would be both Trump and Hillary.
What’s your poison?
Lately I have been drinking a nice cherry wheat by Sam Adams, but any lager works.
Do you smell what The Rock is cookin’?
Smells like bacon….and bad movies.
If you could go be a part of making the final decisions in the making of a video game (past, present, or future) which game would it be? And what would you do?
I would love to work on a stand alone zombies game, either in the art direction, stage layouts, or Easter egg development. 8)
If you could high five anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
This one was tough! I believe it would be a double high five from Quentin Tarantino and Aaron Horkey.
Who is the scariest person from SIP that you’ve met so far?
Haven’t met anyone yet unfortunately! But I believe I am close to a few of the southeast members here.
If you could go on a date with any celebrity who would it be?
Hmmm, probably (100%) Selma Hayek.
Thanks to Arby for this interview and thanks again for the many fun years, SIP. Here’s to many more.
Thanks JR (not “Junior”) for spending some time in the Hot Seat with us today! JR is one of many interesting members here at SIP – to read their Hot Seat interviews, check out the Hot Seat and SIP Spotlight archives.
